So that's it, finally!
I was really intending to talk about that album much sooner but it's kind of pretty special to me so it had to take all the time it needed.
This is the third studio album by Lana and the genres here vary from : blues rock, dream pop, and indie rock.. So obviously it sounds pretty dark and sad even if you didn't even start listening yet.
So I have to warn you, If you deeply listen to this album, you'll end up really really in the blues, you'll feel miserable, and sad! + it includes some F-words, lots of drugs, sex and gloomy stuff, Classic-Lana except it all got doubled or even tripled !
So let's get started...get your tissues!
Cruel world
"I shared my body and my mind with you, that's all over now!"
That's a hell of an album-head ! A glorified punch of depression.
She sounds heartbroken, week and miserable with her heavily-reverbed vocals,
"Because you're young, you're wild, you're free, you dance in circles around me, you're fuckin' crazy!"
Is my favorite part of all lyrics, I don't even know why!
This is probably my favorite song of the entire album I guess
"I'm so happy now that you're gone!" That's how you kick off ! even when you feel so empty inside!
That song has lots of drugs, love, lust, sex, parties, sadness, happiness & craziness. It's a whole album itself!

-just till you start to get how twisted this song is!-
"He hit me and it felt like a kiss" - She quotes from The Crystals' hit in the 60s-
"Yo soy la princessa ...." she sings in a weird way -that I don't know how to professionally describe- but she seems obsessed with it recently.
The song itself has been referred to be talking about "domestic violence", and in a way that made Lana look like she's pro-it actually! - She's getting raped, over and over but then she's starting to like the pain and like being raped by that "Jim" and end up mentally-ill as I assumed from the ending, which is beginning to be a guiding-theme of her songs, mentally-ill !-
This song is really really creepy, especially when the Piano and those strings are added !
I don't even know how I feel about the song, it's good, and really beautiful in a really sad way but it always makes me miserable !
Shades of cool
It's a bit of a gloomy ballad, Lana here is in love with a 'Californian' guys, who can't stay with only one girlfriend, does drugs and to him, she's just another girl, and she can't change him nor leave him.
She feels cold and in the "Shades of cool" even in the warmth of California!
"But I can't fix him, can't make him better! " She sings in soprano voice.
And that rattling electrifying guitar solo is just glorious <3
Just keep away off the video please, It's shitty!
West Coast
Her voice sounds misty or dusty here, which is kind of cool actually.
Pretty when you cry
The lyrics here are pretty straightforward, Back to the drug problems, Their relationship has ended, their promises, everything has come to an end, He prefers to get high than being with her, While she still waits for him!
The lyrics are REALLY bitter and sad! And the echos are making them sound more miserable.
She just sounds a little bit repetitive to me when she says "I'll wait for you babe, that's all I do babe, don't come through babe".
Old Money
Sounds a lot like "Born to die" though the lyrics mean quite the opposite actually.
The piano here is really a "tear-jerker", I quote from 'fortemag.com'.
The same broke heart, unfinished love story. A beautiful song, but nothing really new!
The other woman
Just keep away off the video please, It's shitty!

ٍA modern Stevie Nicks is reborn <3
That's a soft rock one, which gets quite close to hip hop sometimes, I think it would've been pretty good as a closing track.
I've been noticing she's getting more and more psychedelic, it's like her Pink-Floyd-fan-boyfriend is influencing her music !

Lana here wants to live by the West coast "Standards", "If you're not drinking, you're not playing"
She still feels kind of empty and that doesn't satisfy her as much as the person she loves does, but she still keeps pushing and pulling, she can't give aways the standards -or in some other theories, her Music- that he dislikes!Pretty when you cry

The other woman
The closing track, and probably the shortest lyrics/track of the album, maybe because it's a cover of Nina Simone's.
The song here is about a man and his wife and a mistress, Lana's voice here is almost better than the original song that dates back to the 60s.
That was the most complicated, morally-twisted, saddest and gloomies album I've heard in a while, But listening to it, It will definitely grow on you !
